Yoga Nidra : Yogic Sleep

Yā devī sarva-bhūteṣu ‘ nidrā-rūpeṇa saṃsthitā

To the Divine Goddess who reside in all existence in the the from of Sleep

A guided meditation practice that every body can “do” and benefit from!

The rewards from practicing of Yoga Nidra are vast and profound. Whether you just want that nice bit at the end of the yoga class where you get to finally lie down so you can rest and recharge…

Maybe you’re in need of some more space and peace in your life…

Or want to try a different sort of cognitive healing…

Or you want to unlock the creative potential you’ve lost or can’t seem to quite connect to…

Perhaps you’re a yogi nerd wanting to dive more deeply into living from a place of conscious awareness; Yoga Nidra can cover it all!

How? We don’t get enough sleep! It’s a fact and sleep is where deep physical, mental and emotional healing occurs and where the mind sifts through what is useful and what is not. So if we’re not allowing ourselves this rest, it’s little wonder we a race of exhausted, burnt out, neurotic, insecure creatures!

Sleep deprivation due to stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, changes in working hours and patterns and so on is hurting us on every level; our physical and mental health, in our relationships and how we interact in our day to day lives, our ability to perform and hit targets in our working lives and our potential for creativity.

Often is the case than when sleep eventually wins the battle (why don’t we let ourselves rest?!) the sleep we do have is not as rejuvenating enough to combat the years of slept debt that we’ve stored up. For me personally, I had honestly felt tired since 2007, my health was suffering and my nervous system completely frazzled until through my soul guide and dear friend Simone Mackay I was introduced to Yoga Nidra.

The practice left me with a deep desire to understand the shifts that were created in my life. Through regularly practice, moving from Western societies predominant state of thinking and doing to our more essential nature of feeling and being has helped me combat a lifetimes worth of sleep related issues including insomnia and panic attacks and has created profound shifts in my day-to-day state of existence.

Yoga Nidra denotes the sleep of the yogi. It is an adaptogenic process of conscious relaxation, and while its roots are ancient – reaching as far back as the Tantras, its contemporary form has been blended with modern neuroscience and serves us as both a form of meditation and a mind-body therapy.

Working consciously with the various stages of sleep, Nidra can allow us to purify and reprogram various layers of our being and bring us into alignment with the truth of who we are. Through accessing and working with the subtle levels of our inner world, we are able to affect change that ripples into our more conscious states, shifting our perspectives, habits and behaviors and ultimately our characters for the betterment of our relationship to ‘self’, all beings, environment and planet.

Yoga Nidra can allow us re-member our underlying peace of mind that is always present within us no matter what life brings our way.

“At it’s heart [Yoga Nidra] is the exquisite embodiment of who we are meant to be and opens us to true authenticity, spontaneity, vulnerability, intimacy and the realisation of our true Self. It reveals how we are each an expression of the totality of life, and that we are intimately connected with every other expression of life” – Richard Millar (Psychologist and IRest Founder)

Some of the potential benefits of Yoga Nidra:

    • Combat anxiety, fear and depression
    • Decrease stress
    • Improve sleep and decreases insomnia
    • Help with pain management
    • Operate from a more heart centre state of being in your day-to-day interactions
    • Heighten energy levels – it is said that 45 minutes of Yoga Nidra is as restorative as three hours of sleep! (although the practice does not serve as a replacement for sleep!)
    • Improve your sense of control of life
    • Increase confidence
    • Create a profound state of peace and well-being
    • Increase sense of well-being
    • Work with deep rooted belief systems and habitual patterns (samskaras) that no longer serve you
    • Emotional/cognitive healing
    • Meditative / spiritual inquiry

Trained in Total Yoga Nidra with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, I call upon my own creativity and expression of wild, Nidra Shakti and draw inspiration from Nature and the elements in order to create original Yoga Nidra scripts.

Available for Yoga Nidra workshops I also facilitate 1 – 2 – 1 Yoga Nidra consultations; working directly with clients and students to tailor unique and personal practices.

Via a 30 minute video or audio consultation, I will work with you to create your own practice and from this you will receive a recording tailored to work with your personal intentions and to meet your specific needs.

The cost of the session is £65 (this is a special introductory rate!) and includes the creation of a recorded audio practice that meets the needs discussed in the one on one session.

Once you have received and listened to the recording, a 30 minute follow up session is then available for £30 should you require one. The intention of the follow up session would be to deepen the therapeutic effects of the practice and allow you to ask any questions that may have arisen from the practice.
